Auto Accidents and Head Injury

Granite Bay Adult Killed in Single Car Crash in FolsomSuffering a head injury after a car accident is quite a common occurrence. Head injuries from car accidents can range from bruises and lacerations to severe concussions or even a fractured skull or facial bones. The severity of these head injuries can drastically impact the health and well-being of those drivers involved in these accidents. If you are involved in a car accident and have suffered a head injury or witnessed another individual suffer a head injury, here are some tips to help ensure that these types of injuries are addressed and handled safely.

  1. Keep the person still. If an individual suffers a head or brain injury, it’s essential to keep them still to avoid the potential of causing even more damage to their brain. The injured person should lie down and remain still with their head and shoulders slightly elevated. Avoid moving the injured party if possible and avoid moving any movement of their neck.
  2. Stop any external bleeding. Apply firm pressure to any wounds that are bleeding with clean gauze or a clean rag. If you suspect a skull fracture, do not apply pressure to this area.
  3. Monitor the injured person for changes in alertness or slowed breathing. If the injured person shows signs of lack of blood flow and circulation, no apparent breathing, or no signs of movement, begin performing CPR.

This accident was a tragic loss of life, and our condolences go out to the victim’s family. It’s essential to remember that while most car accidents resulting in a loss of life involve two parties, you must be cautious even as a lone driver because even one small error can have drastic consequences.
