Olympic Athlete Simone Biles Suffers Hand Injury after being Bitten by a German Shepard

Simone Biles, the decorated American gymnast, posted to her social media on August 13th that she was attacked by a German Shepard, resulting in lacerations on her fingers. Simone reported that she went to the hospital to treat her injuries and received a tetanus shot for preventative measures. Further details from the attack are unknown.

Simone Biles, the decorated American Olympic athlete who took home two medals this year in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is now back home in the United States. Here she had her run-in with that German Shepard that left her with several deep bite wounds on her hand. Biles will appear in Sacramento for the “Gold Over America Tour” at the Golden One Center on September 29, 2021. Her injuries suffered from this dog bite incident shouldn’t affect her appearance in this event.

Dog Bite Prevention

Olympic Athlete Simone Biles Suffers Hand Injury after being Bitten by a German ShepardAnimals can be unpredictable, and most think domesticated pets are harmless. However, any dog can inflict harm if they feel threatened. That’s why respecting and avoiding animals that can cause severe bodily damage is essential. Below you will find a list of tips and advice to prevent injury.

  • Learn to read, understand, and respect a dog’s body language.
  • When aggressive or scared, dogs change their body language to appear bigger or smaller.
  • Never approach a growling or snarling dog that is distressed.
  • Never pet an owner’s dog without permission.
  • If you get permission from the owner, first outstretch your hand, and let the dog sniff you before petting.
  • Never assume that any dog is friendly, and try to pet it.
  • If you see a dog outside off-leash, you should not approach it. Instead, call in animal control.
  • If a dog approaches you aggressively off-leash, don’t try and run away. Instead, stand still and tall like a tree and avoid eye contact. Remain calm, don’t scream or try to run.
  • If a dog attacks you, try throwing something between you and the dog as a distraction, such as a jacket or a backpack.
