SUV Collides with a School Bus Full of Children

The Sacramento Bee recently reported that an SUV rear-ended a school bus on the corner of Greenback Lane and Mariposa Avenue. While this may seem rare, collisions between cars and buses happen frequently. The bus carried 62 students, and 26 complained of pain or injury. Fifteen students were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

“According to the CHP, the school bus was southbound on Mariposa Avenue and was stopped for a red light at the Greenback Lane intersection. The light turned green, and the bus driver, a 55-year-old man, began to turn right onto westbound Greenback. The bus driver saw a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk on Greenback Lane, applied the bus brakes, and stopped.

A gold 2013 Mercedes SUV driven by a 57-year-old Citrus Heights woman was behind the bus, stopping for the red light. When the light changed, she proceeded forward as the bus did. When the bus quit, the SUV driver attempted to apply her brakes but mistakenly pressed the accelerator. The front of the SUV struck the rear of the bus. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have contributed to the crash, which is still under investigation, according to the CHP.”

Although this particular accident only produced minor injuries, these accidents can be dangerous and even deadly. When a bus full of students gets in an accident, many people are at the accident scene. While emergency services do their best to collect information, evidence can be lost, eyewitness reports may differ, and upset or injured children cannot give a complete account of the accident. One of our Sacramento personal injury lawyers can help victims of these accidents get compensation for their injuries.
